What is the best Costa Verde destination for families?

Why Ilhabela wins with small children

The honest warnings about the winner
Ilhabela is not a fenced park, and three warnings prevent scares. First, the steep shorebreak: several beautiful beaches on the island drop off suddenly two steps from the waterline, including Praia do Curral on days of southern swell; the house rule is shallow beaches with small children, and Curral only on flat-sea days. Second, the borrachudo, the little fly of clean rivers: repellent in double doses, reapplied after every swim, solves it. Third, the ferry line on holidays, which eats half a day of vacation from anyone arriving by car without a booking; holidays call for booking everything in advance, and the calendar yardstick is in the best time to visit Ilhabela.
It is also worth saying what the island does not deliver at this stage: the postcards of the ocean side demand 17 km of dirt road rattling the car seat, or open sea with a heavy shorebreak, which is the case of Castelhanos and Bonete. Paraty with kids: the cultural choice
Paraty works with children in a different way: less bucket and spade, more living classroom. An extra trump card for the town: rain does not ruin the day, because church, museum, studio and ice cream shop all work wet, and kids find the tide-flooded town hilarious. The caveats, said head-on: the pé de moleque paving is a declared enemy of strollers and distracted ankles, Paraty’s urban beaches are not the region’s best, and the classic schooner tour lasts 5 hours, too long for a small child on a crowded boat. Ilha Grande with kids: the adventure with a prerequisite
Ilha Grande is the destination the kids will tell about at school: an island without a single car, luggage in wheelbarrows, beaches earned by trail. Near Vila do Abraão there are gentle beaches and the easy aqueduct walk, and the island guide maps what works with the younger ones.
The prerequisite is honest: everything on the island requires legs or a boat. Strollers do not roll on dirt streets and sand. How many days, and the rhythm that works
With children, the right itinerary has fewer beaches and more repetition: five days in Ilhabela yield more than eight days changing towns, because every change of lodging costs a morning of vacation and a dose of everyone’s patience.
