How much a trip to Paraty costs in 2026
The people writing this work at the Paraty pier: the Albatroz, our group’s schooner, leaves Marina Píer 46 every week, and a good part of our life happens between the boat and the historic center. That means we see both sides of the town’s prices: the traveler who spent R$ 5 on the Trindade bus and came back with the best day of the trip, and the one who paid dearly on a packed holiday and left feeling the bill was wrong.
This guide exists to keep you in the first group. Prices researched in 2026, no makeup, organized the way the trip happens: getting there, sleeping, eating, sailing. At the end, three ready-made budgets by profile and a calculation almost nobody does.
The first good news: the best of Paraty is free
Before the numbers, what costs nothing: the entire historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019, is an open-air museum with no turnstile. The big tide that floods the streets on the full and new moons is a free show. The beaches, all of them, by law, too. A trip to Paraty can be expensive, but its core is not, and that changes the math of everything below.
Getting there: from R$ 27.50 to a tank of gas
The classic route is Rio de Janeiro to Paraty: a Costa Verde bus from around R$ 120, 4h30 on the road, several departures a day. From São Paulo, the direct bus starts at around R$ 110 but takes 6 hours or more. Coming from Angra dos Reis, you pay R$ 27.50 on Colitur’s L101 line and arrive in about 2 hours.
By car, add fuel and the free flow toll gantries on the Rio de Janeiro stretch of the Rio-Santos (R$ 4.80 on weekdays, R$ 7.90 on weekends, per gantry), plus parking in Paraty, because the center is closed to cars. Sleeping: the line that separates the budgets
Lodging is where the profiles truly split. The 2026 references, outside holidays:
- Hostel bed: R$ 45 to R$ 120 a night, with the best rated options in the R$ 60 to 90 range.
- Simple guesthouse, outside the historic center: from about R$ 150 to 250 for a double room, almost always with breakfast.
- Guesthouse in the historic center, or a charming one: R$ 300 to R$ 800, with a much higher ceiling in the restored mansions.
Two rules worth gold. First: on holidays, during FLIP and at New Year’s, all of this doubles or triples, and sells out; the map of dates is in best time to visit Paraty. Second: staying outside the historic center is not a defeat. Paraty is small, the neighboring districts are 10 or 15 minutes on foot, and the difference in rates pays for a dinner.

Eating: from the caiçara buffet to the mansion
The food scale in Paraty, at 2026 prices:
- Pay-by-weight restaurant or set lunch: R$ 40 to 55 per person, generous portions, around the market and outside the historic quadrilateral.
- Mid-range restaurant in the center: R$ 70 to 100 per person with a drink.
- An elaborate dinner in a mansion in the center: R$ 120 and up, and Paraty’s cooking justifies the experience at least once, ideally on a rainy day, when the whole town fits at one long table. Rain here has its own itinerary, by the way: things to do in Paraty when it rains.
The money-saving shortcut with the best return: breakfast included at your lodging and lunch as the main meal of the day, which is when the good restaurants charge less.
Sailing and touring: the sea tickets
- Classic schooner around the islands: around R$ 60 per person, 5 hours, leaving from the pier. The best cost per hour in town.
- Municipal bus to Trindade: about R$ 5 each way, 27 km, with the Cachadaço natural pool thrown in.
- Shared speedboat or private boat: from R$ 150 per person up to group rates, depending on the route.

The extras nobody budgets (and the cash)
Two warnings from people who watch travelers get tangled up at the pier every week. First, the extras: the bottle of artisanal cachaça to take home, the caiçara handicrafts, the taxi on the rainy night. None of it breaks the budget on its own, but over three days it adds up to a night’s lodging; leave a cushion of about 10% of the total so the trip can breathe. Second, the cash: on the more remote beaches, in Trindade and on the boats, the phone signal fails and the card machine fails with it. Some paper in your wallet avoids the classic scene of a pastel in hand and a payment that will not go through.

Multiplying by the right number of days (the math on how many is in how many days in Paraty), a 3 day trip lands between about R$ 500 in the backpacker profile and R$ 2,000 or more in comfort.
The calculation almost nobody does: adding up the parts
Now the reading from people who work on this sea. Take the mid-range profile and build two days and two nights around the best of Paraty, the outer sea: two guesthouse nights (about R$ 400 for a couple in a double room, or R$ 200 per person), six meals (about R$ 250 per person), one schooner day (R$ 60) and one longer speedboat trip to the Saco do Mamanguá (R$ 150 and up). That lands around R$ 700 to 900 per person, sleeping in town and visiting the sea in windows of a few hours.
The two night Albatroz expedition starts at R$ 990 per person, in 10 interest-free installments, and flips that logic: lodging, the chef’s meals on board, snorkeling at Ilha dos Meros, a barbecue at Praia Grande da Cajaíba and the night anchored inside the Mamanguá fjord, with a bonfire party on the beach. For the price of adding up the parts, you trade visiting the sea for living on it for two days. It is our boat, the interest is declared, but the math is there to check.
Five ways to spend less without traveling worse
- Avoid holidays: it is the variable that weighs most, more than any coupon.
- Go in May or September, when rates drop and the weather helps.
- Sleep outside the historic quadrilateral and walk 10 minutes.
- Make lunch the big meal of the day.
- Trindade by municipal bus: R$ 10 round trip for one of the best days in the region.
